Served and suffered during The Great War, now resting at Sandgate Cemetery.

54 years ago today, on the 23rd January 1968, Private Stanley Curtis, 30th Battalion (Reg No-2311), wheeler from Fitzroy Road, Lambton, New South Wales, was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 73. CONGREGATIONAL-4CSW. 47.

Born at Lambton, New South Wales on the 12th September 1894 to William and Kitty (Kate) Miriam Curtis; husband of Hettie Florence Curtis nee Brown (married 27.5.1918 at The Parish Church of the Holy Trinity, Southall, Middlesex, England, died 7.1.1967, not 1966, sleeping here), Stanley enlisted August 1915 at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Admitted to hospital 17.4.1916 (mumps).
Evacuated to hospital 30.11.1916 (trench feet).
Amputation of both feet - 20.1.1917.

Stanley was invalided home September 1918, being discharged medically unfit (both feet amputated) on the 28th February 1919.

Mr. Curtis’s name has been inscribed on the Lambton Park Citizens' Memorial Gates, Lambton and New Lambton Municipal District Roll of Honor, New Lambton Public School Roll of Honour, Lambton Rechabites (John Wise Tent) No. 73 Roll of Honor (unveiled on the 1st November 1920, 9 names inscribed, 3 Fallen) and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.

I have place poppies at Stanley’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
