Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

William Botsford served at the Anzac Landing with the 14th Battalion. He was evacuated to Egypt after suffering a bullet wound to the cheek on 19 May 1915. He returned to Gallipoli during July and was evacuated sick after the August 1915 battles.

One of the first casualties of the 14th Battalion in France, he was badly wounded in the upper leg and jaw by shrapnel on 29 June 1916 and died a few days later in a Field Ambulance. His father Sapper John Botsford, served overseas with the 10th Field Company Engineers until 1919.

It was reported in the local newspaper, "Private W. Botsford, who died of wounds on July 3, was Brighton Street Richmond old boy, and was a Gallipoli hero, having been wounded twice; on the second occasion at Lone Pine. His father, who is now on his way to the front with the 10th Field Engineers, had two toes amputated, so as to pass the doctor."
