Charles Walter Williams was born at Katunga, Victoria on 21st June, 1887. His mother – Harriet May Williams died on 1897.
Charles Walter Williams (known as “Wally”) enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 13th September, 1914 as a 27 year old, single, Labourer from Numurkah, Victoria.
On 22nd December, 1914 Private Charles Walter Williams, Service number 282, embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on HMAT Ulysses (A38) with 14th Infantry Battalion, “B” Company.
Private Charles Walter Williams was wounded in action between 1st & 3rd May, 1915 at the Dardanelles. He was admitted to No. 17 General Hospital at Alexandria on 6th May, 1915 with gunshot wounds to Lumbar region – severe. He embarked for England on Delta on 2nd June, 1915.
Private Charles Walter Williams died on 28th June, 1915 at Manchester Hospital, Lancashire, England from Enteric Fever & wounds received in action.
He was buried on Southern Cemetery, Manchester, Lancashire, England where 16 other WW1 Australian War Graves (or connected to Australia) are located.
