Harold Norman CAMERON, (Service Number 2298) was born at Wandsworth, near Guyra, in 1896. He joined the NSWGR as a junior porter in the Murrurundi District in January 1913. It appears that he was working at Narrabri when he was released from duty in June 1915 to enlist in the AIF at Liverpool.
He embarked at Sydney in September 1915 and landed in Egypt in November. In the same month joined he his unit at Gallipoli. He was evacuated in January 1916. He spent two months in Egypt before proceeding to France, where he landed in March. On 5 May 1916 he was wounded in action. He had been handed over to stretcher bearers, but sadly died of his wounds before reaching an advanced dressing station.

Norm
Norman was the youngest of the sons of John & Rachel Cameron who were killed in WW1. The family have noticed that the handwriting on the letter giving permission from his mother for Norman to join up is not of that of his mother (he is noted as being 18 & 9/12yrs of age on his enlistment papers). Norm was a junior porter on the Railways and enlisted at Liverpool, some distance from home in Wandsworth! He was the last of the three to enlist - it seems he may have missed his brothers.
He left behind his mother and a young nephew - who obviously missed his uncles as he named three of his sons after the three uncles.

Harold’s father had passed away the year after he was born and he was raised at Wandsworth, near Guyra, NSW by his mother, Rachel, along with his six brothers and sisters. He was only 18 years of age when he enlisted.
Harold joined the 20th Battalion on Gallipoli on 20 November 1915, and served through until the evacuation. He was wounded on the 5 May 1916, and handed over to stretcher bearers of the 2nd Aust Field Ambulance but died of wounds before he could reach a dressing station.
His older brother, 1115 Pte. John Cameron 2nd Battalion AIF had been killed in action at Anzac on 2 May 1915, aged 20.
Another older brother, 1640 Lce. Cpl. Hugh Cameron 9th Battalion AIF, was killed in action less than a month later on 1 June 1916, aged 32.
