Cornelius Duncan McMillan, Service Number - 25583

Cornelius Duncan McMillan was born in Marrickville, New South Wales on January 29 1897. McMillan spent most of his young life in Sydney, first attending Leichhardt Public School, then Sydney Technical High School, all while achieving above average academics. This gave him skills and knowledge that would serve him for most of his life in the military, and in his civilian job as a clerk. In February of 1916, McMillan enlisted in the AIF in Sydney. He was assigned the service number 25583 and put in the 11th Field Artillery Brigade.

After the end of the war in 1918, McMillan returned to Australia. He settled back into Sydney, this time in Chatswood. In 1920, he married Gertude I Shields, staying married for the remainder of his life. In 1943, he pursued a new life in the town of Lilley, in Queensland. He would stay here until he reached old age, at which point he moved into the Jindalee Nursing Home. He passed away on February 27, 1979 at the age of 82.
