Born at Tighes Hill, New South Wales about 1894 to Frederick Christian Anderson (died 1939 - http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article133736797) and Phoebe Plovman nee Reid (died 1918 - http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article137489870) of "Georgewood", Turner Street, Georgetown (Waratah), N.S.W., William enlisted August 1915 with the 20th Battalion at Newcastle, N.S.W.
Wounded in action 2.4.1917 (GSW chest), William is resting at Pozieres British Cemetery, France. Plot II Row J Grave 4.
Mr Plovman’s name has been inscribed on the Waratah Park Memorial Gates and the Tighes Hill Public School Honor Roll (photo, unveiled on the 24th May 1918, 144 names now inscribed, 20 Fallen).
There is no memorial inscription on the parent’s headstone to tell us of the supreme sacrifice of their son for God, King and Country, so March 2021 I placed a memorial cross adorned with poppies on the gravesite, taken a photo of the memorialised grave and uploaded the photo onto the Northern Cemetery website as a permanent record of his service.
Younger brother George Albert Victor (Reg No-N12381 and N81071, 36th Training Battalion, born 24.10.1898, East Moree, N.S.W.) enlisted 1st A.I.F., rejected.
Lest We Forget.
