Biography contributed by Kaye Wheeler

John Christie was born in 1892 in Caulfield Victoria. He was the 7th of 11 children born to Andrew Aitken Christie and Hanna (Hester). John's father died in 1912, when he was 19, and his mother Hanna was given as his next of kin on his enlistment. The family address at the time of his father's death was Rose St. West Brunswick. Before enlisting in the AIF John worked as a station hand, and this may have been the reason he was in NSW at the time of enlistment.

His brothers, Robert and Arthur also enlisted in WW1 and luckily for this family all three brothers returned home from the War.
