Biography

John Patrick, was born on the 03/02/1894 in Gladstone S.A. The fourth child of Patrick James and Elizabeth Ronan.
John was enrolled into the Redhill Rural school on the 29/01/1902 at the age of eight.
He was transferred to the Sunnyhill school on the 01/06/1904 due to an accident that burnt down their home and caused the death of his brother Andrew.

Around 1910 they moved down to Gawler, where John found employment as a Blacksmiths assistant, until the 26/07/1915, when he enlisted into the 1st Australian Imperial force at Keswick S.A., No.3456.

John Patrick served overseas in the Middle East, France and Belgium with the following units; the 3rd Australian training Battalion, 50th Australian Infantry Battalion, 10th Australian Infantry Battalion and the 70th Australian Infantry Battalion. He survived the war and returned home on the 15 Dec 1918 and discharged on the 26 Feb 1919.
Medals issued to him were; 1914/15 Star, British War Medal and the Victory Medal.

John married Mary Ellen Haggetty in the Adelaide Registry Office, on 18th October 1920.
Mary was born on the 10/07/1900.
John and Mary lived in Gawler, and became the proud parents of eight boys and three girls as follow; Raymond John born 16/10/1921, Rex Michael born 19/01/1924, Monica Daphnie born 11/01/1925, Douglas Joseph born 24/05/1927, Eleen Patricia born 23/11/1929, John Danial born 11/01/1933, Peter Lawrence born 25/03/1936, Nevil Martin born 25/08/1937, Margaret Joy born 01/11/1938 and Patrick David born 05/11/1942.

John Patrick Ronan, died on the 23/08/1968 aged 74.
Mary Ellen, died on the 08/11/1979 aged 79, both are buried in the Willaston cemetery South Australia.
