Richard Bevan who was killed in action in France on 11th September 1917 was the younger son of Mr. Edward Philip and Amy Constance Bevan, of Coppin Grove, Hawthorn, Vic.  He was born in 1895 and was at the Prepartory School Melbourne Church of England Grammar from 1905 to 1909.  He was in the employ of Robert Debenham and Co., when he enlisted in September 1915 and was sent to Egypt.  He was engaged on the Canal for six months in the 11th Battery Field Artillery and then saw service om France and Belgium.  He and Ormond Newman (from the same school) were killed by the same shell which hit their dug-out while they were in it.
