Biography contributed by John Oakes

Edward Marius Thomas REBOUL (Service Number 6801) was born on 29th December 1895 at St Marys. He worked as a junior clerk in the Traffic Branch of the Tramways in Sydney from 6th November 1913, always as a permanent employee. On 29th December 1916, his 21st birthday, his role, nominally at least, became designated as clerk, but as he had been released from duty to join the Expeditionary Forces several months earlier on 16th May the only change really was to his salary.
Reboul enlisted at the Royal Agricultural Society Showgrounds at Moore Park in Sydney on 8th May 1916. He claimed three years’ commissioned service with the Cadets and gave his father, Marius Reboul of Strathfield, as his next of kin. Marius was a French national and a representative of Comptoir National d’Escompte de Paris.
He was allotted to the 22nd Reinforcements to the 13th Australian Infantry Battalion. He embarked SS ‘Port Nicholson’ on 8th November 1916 and reached Devonport on (England) 10th January 1917. On 5th

March 1917 he was promoted to Acting Lance Corporal and proceeded overseas to France. He was taken on the strength of the 13th Battalion on 24th March.
On 25th July 1917 he became a Lance Corporal in Belgium.

On 6th October 1917 he was killed between Zillebeke and Menin Road. He has no known grave and is remembered on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres.
Reboul’s father made representations to a French diplomat stationed in Australia to recover his son’s body.

However, this request was not successful and he has no know grave.
