Army including Vietnam service

Attended Recruit Training at Kapooka Army barracks NSW and was then posted to the newly formed 1 APC Squadron at Kapyong Barracks, Puckapunyal, VIC.

After intense Corp training at Puckapunyal, he was posted to Nui Dat, Vietnam in October 1966, serving with 1 APC Squadron (which was renamed A Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment in Feb 67), he returned to Australia in April 1967.

Upon his return to Australia he was posted to 1st Armored regiment for a short time as a Driving Instructor on APC's and promoted to L/Corporal, after a serious head injury during a training exercise he was then posted to 2 RTB (Recruit Training Battalion) also at Puckapunyal as a Recruit Training Instructor with the rank of Corporal for a period of 6 months.

In August 1968 he was posted to Keswick Barracks Adelaide SA in for discharge.
