Enlisted as an Army Apprentice (Radio) in the 14th intake, 9 Jan 1959.
On graduation, assigned to RAEME and posted to Central Command Workshop, Keswick.
Next to 1 Medium Workshop, Broadmeadows Vic. Further trade courses at RAEME Training Centre, Bandiana, with promotion to Cpl in early 1965.
April 1965 posted to 1RAR for deployment to Vietnam. Never experienced JTC. Never had a chance to find out role or relationship with Bn personnel before flying to Vietnam. First met other 1RAR/RAEME members when they arrived (having been transported on HMAS Sydney).
On RTA, trouble getting away from 1RAR but eventually posted to Technical Services Unit, Albert Park - det 3 Base Workshop, Broadmeadows.
Opted for discharge, Jan 1968.
Following discharge, I settled in Adelaide and after 13 + years, was asked to join the Army Reserve with the rank of Lieutenant. ARes service was with local RAEME and supported units.
Compulsorily retired, 27 June 1992. Rank Captain.
