Add my storyBiography contributed by Jack Harrison
Albert Edward Harrison was born in Victoria. As he progressed his life, he enlisted into the army as a corporal during the Boer war. He was assigned to the 5th Victorian Mounted Rifles and was given the service number of 968. After his service in the Boer war, he then returned to Australia and married Nora Harrison. Sometime in this period, Albert and Nora moved to O'Donnell Street, Coogee, New South Wales. He was a traveller.
Upon the outbreak of World War One, Albert was quick to enlist in the Australian Imperial Force, to do further service in the war effort. He enlisted on the 5th of May 1915 and upon enlisting into the army, he received the rank of Lieutenant. Then, upon nominal role, he received the rank of Captain and he was assigned to the 19th Infantry Battalion, being placed into D company. Albert Edward Harrison, along with the rest of his unit sailed from Sydney, on the HMAT Ceramic on the 25th of June 1915. By the time of departure. He was already 38 years old. The HMAT Ceramic took them to Egypt for training purposes and proper preparation for the war.
Later in the war, Harrison ended up in England, assigned the task of training new troopers. In 1917, he went absent without leave (AWOL) He was detained for this. However, upon being detained, he escaped arrest and then was caught once again. After this occurred, he was dismissed from the Australian Imperial Force by court marshal on the 28th of August 1917. With the judge commenting on his case saying “creditable record of service”. The overall fate of Albert Edward Harrison after this point is unknown and it may remain that way forever.
Speculation:
It’s almost impossible to determine Harrison's fate. There is speculation he joined the British Army as a temporary 2nd Lieutenant. However, after this point, the trail ends.
