Embarkation details: Unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A64 Demosthenes on 29 October 1915. The ship departed Fremantle, WA on 29 December 1915.

War Service/Promotions:  Allotted to and proceeded to join 46th Battalion. Attached to depot 18 May 1915. On 6 March 1916, at Zeitoun Egypt, Taken on Strength in the 46th Battalion and transferred on 15 March 1915, at Tel-el-Kebir from 46th Battalion to 4th Pioneer Battalion (Engineers) as a Sapper. Proceeded to BEF from Alexandria, Egypt on 4 June 1916, arriving in Marselles, France on 11 June 1916.

Fate:  Killed in action, 31 July 1916,  in the Field, France

Place of Death:   France, somewhere near Pozieres.

Place of Burial/Cremation: Buried Albert Military Cemetery Extension, 16 September 1916 (I.L.35, grave 430)

Medals/Citations:   British War Medal; Victory Medal. The Victory Medal was received by his mother 21 February 1923; Memorial Scroll & King's Message on 19 January 1922; Memorial Plaque on 8 August 1922. His mother also received his effects on 19 October 1917. His effects were his identity disc, Testament, letters, Gospel of St. Matthew and Stationery.
