Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

His parents, John Lincoln and Elizabeth Yeadon, were living at Port Darwin, South Australia, when he enlisted.

Charles served on Gallipoli from August 1915 and was promoted to Company Sergeant Major on the 16 March 1916, then 2nd Lieutenant a few days before his death. He was awarded the Military Cross for his courage and gallantry shown leading his platoon on the day he was killed.

He was listed as wounded and missing for over 12 months before he was confirmed as killed in action on 5 August 1916. His remains were discovered in 1930, with his own identity disc on the chest, a fountain pen and a 2nd Lieutenant's badge of rank on the Australian uniform.
