Son of Norman Edgar Venning and Annetta Lois Jenner of Pinnaroo, South Australia. Brother of Percy Alan Venning, Lois Esther Venning and Eric Norman Venning
Raymond was serving on HMAS Kuttabul which was attacked and sunk by a Japanese midget submarine which had slipped into Sydney Harbour on the night of 31 May 1942
HMAS Kuttabul was used mainly as an accommodation ship for naval personnel who were waiting to join their ships.
Raymond was one of the 21 Naval personnel who lost their lives when Kuttabul was sunk.
