Ordinary-Seaman Arthur George Summers, 20, of Hargrave street, Peterhead, joined the Navy a year ago, hoping to see his only brother, A.B. Robert Summers. who went away on the outbreak of war. They never met, but were in Sydney together on December 5. On that day Robert arrived home on leave in a ship escorted from New Zealand by the Perth.
They sent wires to their mother within an hour of each other. Neither had any idea that the other was in Sydney, as Robert did not know until later that his brother was in the escorting cruiser.
O.S Summers worked in the South Australian Harbors Board Office. Port Adelaide. He was educated at Largs Bay School. He was secretary of Ipana Tennis Club Peterhead.
