Signalman Howard William Sneyd, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Sneyd, of Commercial road, Hyde Park, served on board the Yarra for 15 months before joining the Perth on January 22. He is a distant relative of Admiral Sneyd, who served with the Royal Navy in the last war, and of Capt. Sneyd. who was formerly stationed at the Flinders Naval Depot.
He enlisted in the Navy at 16, just before the outbreak of war. His first ship was the Yarra, in which he served for about 15 months. He was invalided home last September, and was at Flinders Naval Depot before he was drafted to Perth. Sig Sneyd, who was 19 on February 13, was educated at Prince Alfred College.
