Biography

"THE LATE SERGEANT SPRITCH.

Sergeant T. A. Spritch, who was killed at the Dardanelles on May 31, was the eldest son of the late Mrs. T. A. Spritch Semaphore. He was born at Water-street, Semaphore, in 1880, and was educated at Lefevre's Peninsula school, and Mr. T. A. Caterer's Collegiate School, Semaphore. After leaving college, he entered the office of Messrs. Crooks & Brooker, where he remained four years. Subsequently he obtained his accountant and auditor's certificate, and joined the staff of the Union Bank. He held various important positions in South Australia, Western Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland, where he enlisted, and was transferred to the 15th Battalion at Broadmeadows. Sergeant Spritch was a popular sportsman, having been a member of the Semaphore Lacrosse Club and the Port Adelaide Rowing Club. He left four sisters, Mrs. T. K. Weetman, Mrs. Hugh M. Waterman, both of the Semaphore; Mrs. Harry Lewis, Terminus Hotel, Adelaide; and Mrs. Crowe, Victoria; and one brother, Sergeant P. Spritch, now at the front. He was 35 years of age and was unmarried." - from the Adelaide Chronicle 19 Jun 1915 (nla.gov.au)
