HERO AT SIXTEEN
Official notification was received by Mrs C. Williamson, 466 Toorak
road, Toorak, on July 25, that her son, Private Roy Williamson, of the 13th Reinforcements, 7th Battalion, was killed in action at Pozieres on July 26, 1916.
Private Williamson had been previously reported missing. He
enlisted in 1916, and at the time of his death was 16 1/2 years of age. Prior to enlistment, he was employed as "buttons" at the Occidental Hotel, Collins street. Before he could be accepted for active service he had to undergo on operation for deafness.
Three sons of Mrs Williamson have gone on active service. Her
eldest son, William, was wounded at Lone Pine. After having been
in hospital for more than 12 months he recovered and was sent to
France. The second son, George, is also serving in France.
