Flying Officer Eric John Sugg was the second son of Bentham and Sarah Ann Sugg of Blackwood South Australia. His wife was Lois Catherine Sugg of Eudunda.

Eric John Sugg was a school teacher before enlistment and a member of the Spencer Gulf Aero Club.

His younger brother was 416085 Flight Sergeant James Albert Sugg who was killed in 1943 during air ops in Papua New Guinea.
