Son of Mr and Mrs Arthur SCHELLER of 226 Hutt Street, Adelaide, SA.  Educated at Flinders Street Public and Adelaide High Schools he gained his Intermediate Commerical Certificate with 2 credits.  Fond of tennis, he also played cricket for Adelaide High Team (Firsts) and captained the Junior Football Team.  Interested in story writing, poetry and play writing in civilian life he was employed by G & R Wills & Coy. for four years as a warehouseman.  He left that position to join the RAAF in May 1941 and began training at Pearce WA and then at Mount Gambier and Port Pirie where he qualified as an observer.  Transferred to Nhill Victoria and then St. Mark's North Adelaide.
