Frederick served with 458 Squadron as a Pilot, and was awarded his Pilot Wings on the 2nd April 1942. He was attached to the RAF from 16th June 1942 till 29th October 1945 and served in the middle east command, earning the 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-45 and the Australian Service Medal.
