Mr John Williams AM
Amazing how Reg survived the war. He was a rear gunner in a Lancaster bomber.
When returning from a flight the plane landed very steeply. Reg suffered ear damage and was grounded for some time.
The very next mission his crew went on all were killed. Apparently colliding with another Lancaster over France.
Reg was back at base safe and well.
In 1994 when he was diagnosed with cancer he said to his wife Clare ‘well I got 50 years of living, not like that young pommy rear gunner who took my place on that fateful mission.’
