LANCASTER FAILS TO RETURN
FROM MISSION
Mrs. J. A. Knight, of the Swan Cafe, Commercial Road, was officially advised by telegram early this week that her second son, W.O. A. E. W. (Bert) Knight, who had been serving with the RAAF in England for nearly two years, is missing, the Lancaster bomber in which he was navigator failing to return from a mission over Germany on February 15.
W.O. Knight was educated at the Port Augusta school and Stott's Business College, trained in Australia and left for England in June, 1943. While attached to the Bomber Command he took part in a number of raids over Germany and other enemy territory. In a letter received last week by his mother he related how in January he had a remarkable escape from serious injury, and perhaps death, when enemy gun fire blew away the bomb sight and other parts of the plane a few inches away from him.
