Fight Sergeant Percival James Whittard was the son of Isaac Willie and Linda Ellen Whittard.
He was born in Port Pirie and resided in nearby Solomontown, later moving to Adelaide where he lived at North Adelaide and worked as a clerk.
He enlisted in the RAAF in Adelaide. He completed his six month Wireless Air Gunners course in June 1942 and became a part of the 216 Group RAF Ferry Control. This Unit received prepared and dispatched aircraft reinforcements into the North African and Mediterranean Theatre of operations.
On 21st July 1943 The crew was operating Wellington Aircraft HE 790 en route to Karachi from RAF Habbaniya, Iraq. One mile from the aerodrome the aircraft crashed killing all crew members.
