Son of Montague Wilfred and Florence Augusta Matilda White of St. Peters, SA

Avro Anson R3553 of Number 3 Service Flying Training School crashed at Amberley Aerodrome in Queensland whilst night flying (0030 hrs), the aircraft hit trees on the boundary of the aerodrome during approach. Killed were: Leading Aircraftman Hawtrey Montague White 416010 & Flying Officer George Campbell Hughes 665

Both airmen are commemorated on a Memorial Plaque at RAAF Base Amberley
