B25 Mitchell bomber N5-140 of 18 (Netherlands East Indies - NEI) Squadron RAAF crashed near Nightcliffs 5 miles from Darwin after a night-start.  The target for the bombing mission was Baccau, Timor. 

Flight Sergeant Ronald James Hill 407768 and Sergeant George Bryanton Weller 406968 of the RAAF were killed along with the Dutch component of the crew: Sergeant Major G Tijmons 93268 / Sergeant K. Van Bremen 23522 / Sergeant Major FJM Van Wylick 90068

Son of Harry Rogers Hill and Alice Jessie Hill of Clarence Park, SA

Flt Sgt Hill's father, 6571 Private Harry Rogers Hill, 27th Battalion, had served during the First World War and was killed in action in Belgium on 26 September 1917. His brother, 24227 Engine Room Artificer 4th Class Robert Henry Hill, died at sea when the HMAS Sydney was torpedoed and sunk on 19 November 1941.
