Leading Aircraftman Victor Harold Arnold McComish (Service No:140409) enlisted in the RAAF at No 5 Recruiting Centre Adelaide on 25 May 1943 as an Aircraftman I - mustered as Motorcyclist - and attached to No 1 Central Reserve Marrangoo. LAC McComish served in New Guinea (Tadji in Aitape, Madang and Goodenough Island in Milne Bay) from 8 October 1943 to 12 February 1945, with Rescue and Communication Squadron and No 8 Squadron, and was attached to 3 Transport and Movement Office at Discharge on 4 March 1946.

Victor was born in College Town, Adelaide, South Australia in 1918, eldest of four children of Donald Joseph McComish (b1892 in Fremantle, Western Australia) and Haydee Emily Beck (b1900 in Snowtown, South Australia). Donald and Haydee married in 1918 in Adelaide, where they settled and raised their family and Donald worked as a Painter. Haydee died in 1931 and Donald in 1946.

Victor worked in Adelaide as a Heat Treater, Welder and Blacksmith for Carr Fastener Coy, and in 1938 married his first wife Elva Mabel Gully (b1920 in Adelaide, SA). Elva died in 1940, leaving Victor a Widower with a small daughter when he enlisted in the RAAF. Following his Discharge, Victor was working as a Tool Hardener in Kilkenny, Adelaide where, in 1947, he remarried to Beryl Hilda Samsom (b1923 at Largs Bay, Port Adelaide, SA). Victor and Beryl settled in Kilkenney, Adelaide - Victor died in 1993 and Beryl in 2015.
