Leading Aircraftman John Charles Schmitt (Service No:115920) enlisted in the RAAF on 31 August 1942. He had initially enlisted in the ACMF (Service No:A543156) on 4 January 1940 as a Private attached to 48th Infantry Battalion. LAC Schmitt was attached to 4 Personnel Depot when he was Discharged on 11 October 1945.
The eldest of two children, John was born in 1919 in Adelaide, South Australia to Clarence Leslie Schmitt (b1893 in Adelaide, South Australia) and Hedwig Agnes Reimann (b1896 at Eudunda, South Australia). Clarence (a Labourer) and Hedwig married in 1918 in Adelaide, South Australia and settled at Hindmarsh where they raised their family and Clarence was a Labourer.
John worked as a Wood Machinist in Hilton, Adelaide South Australia prior to his Service in WWII. He married Yvonne Warren Keyser (b1923 in Wagin, WA) - both John and Yvonne served in the RAAF at 4 Personnel Depot in Kalgoorlie. John and Yvonne settled in Adelaide, South Australia where they raised their family. John died in 1988 and Yvonne in 2004.
