Corporal Ellis John Gully (Service No:115946) enlisted in the RAAF at No 5 Recruiting Centre Adelaide on 15 September 1942 as an Aircraftman I - mustered as Trainee Nursing Orderly attached to Medical Training Section HQ Laverton. Re mustered as Nursing Orderly, he served as LAC and then Corporal at RAAF Wing Royal Adelaide Hospital, No 55 Operational Base Unit (OBU) Birdum NT and RAAF Station Laverton. Corporal Gully - Medical Orderly - was attached to 7 RAAF Hospital (Staff) at Discharge on 18 February 1946.
Ellis was born in Norwood, Adelaide, South Australia in 1918, second of six children of Rupert Lawrence Gully (b1893 in Adelaide, South Australia) and Mabel Annie Addicoat (b1888 in Kooringa, South Australia). Rupert and Mabel married in 1915 in Adelaide, where they settled and raised their family and Rupert was a Painter.
Ellis worked as a Chemist's Assistant in Adelaide when he left school, before starting work in 1937 as a Painter for William Essery & Sons. In 1940 in Adelaide, Ellis married Joyce Verna Cossons (b1916 in Norwood, Adelaide, South Australia). Ellis and Joyce settled in Adelaide, where they raised their family and Ellis was a Painter. Ellis died in 1987 and Joyce in 2007.
