Elva Margaret Maddison attended the Renmark Primary School and acheived a distinguished school record.  This was further enhanced at Stotts Business School where she undertook studies in business administration receiving distinctions in bookkeeping, shorthand and typing.  On 22 July 1945 she left Renmark for Melbourne and enlistsed in the W.A.A.F. in the Royal Australian Airforce.

On 22 January 1948 she married Douglas Keith Starks himself a member of the 2nd A.I.F. Regimental Number SX 27702. Theere were four children from the marriage.

Both Elva and Douglas Starks lived out their days in Renmark - Douglas died in August 2000 aged 87 yrs  Elva in 2012 aged 85 yrs.
