Born at Salt Lagoon in the Hundred of Dudley; 5th of 7 children born to Alfred James Waller and Mary Ann (Ann) nee Simpson. Descendant of Black Betty Thomas (from the Nuenonne Poeple of Tasmania, captured by sealers in 1819)
