Biography contributed by Evan Evans

From Gary Mitchell

A digger of The Great War and Campbell’s Hill (Catholic) Cemetery, Maitland, New South Wales.

Gunner Hugh Owen Healy, 3rd Australian Field Artillery Brigade, station hand from Aberglasslyn, New South Wales, was laid to rest at Campbell’s Hill Cemetery on the 18th October 1954, age 64.

I was recently contacted by Mr Healy’s Grandson Tom Healy that his Grandfather was resting in an unmarked grave, so this morning I placed a cross adorned with poppies on the gravesite with Tom and brother Colin to honour Hugh’s service and sacrifice 100 years ago.

Also of great interest is his marriage to Mary Stanislaus Healy nee White (married 1922, died 1971), who served as a nurse in The Great War. We are unsure if buried with Hugh, and research is continuing.

Any information about Mary’s service would be greatly appreciated, as we would like to honour her with a cross as well, then perhaps a Commonwealth War Graves Plaque.

Lest We Forget.
