Son of the late J and Mrs. A.M. HOCKHAM of Basket Range, SA.  Married to Vera with three children and residing at 10 Webbe Street Norwood, he was 35 years of age when he enlisted in WW2.  Educated at the Basket Range School, William was keen on boxing and since joining the R.A.A.F. in June 1941 he has competed successfully in boxing bouts in Victoria and South Australia.  He won a trohy in R.A.A.F. Competition in Victoria in July 1941 and was a member of the 10th Battalion Militia, Vickers Gun Section for 3 years and reached the rank of Sergeant.  In civilian life he was a driver for Hall & Sons, Norwood.  His father-in-law Troooper G.L. HARDEY fought in the Boer War through the campaign and died at Blomfonten on June 15 1900.
