Norseman aircraft A71-1 from 5 Communication Unit based at Garbutt crashed into the sea near Boigu Island in the Torres Strait

Flight Sergeant Frank Henry Rossiter 432268 / LAC Clifford David Searle 76295 / LAC John Norman George Dunn 28046 were killed - their bodies were not recovered and they are commemorated on the Sydney Memorial
