2 Mar 1943: Enlisted Australian Military Forces (Army WW2), Captain, SX30203, General / Motor Transport Company/ies (WW2), 148th Australian General Transport Coy. from 02/03/1943 to 09/04/1946. Served majority of service based in Alice Springs working on the construction of the road & transportation of supplies from Alice Springs to Larrimah. The author Alec Gurney met with Edwin (Curly hair) and his mate Lieutenant Alan Gordon (Red hair); he referred to the pair as "Bluey & Curly" and hence the popular cartoon was born.
