Harry was the third of six children of John Reginald Basil (aka Harry Basil) Brown (b1873 in Yorkshire, England) and Edith Ann Welfare (b1874 in Bridgewater, South Australia). John (a Butcher) and Edith married in 1892 in Port Augusta, South Australia. John was a Farrier when he emigrated, arriving in Adelaide South Australia in September 1890 on board the Port Victor. In 1901 John and Edith moved to Mildura, Victoria where John was a Butcher. By 1913 the family had moved to Albany WA where John was a Butcher. Following Edith's death in 1914, John enlisted on two occasions in the AIF - both times for a couple of months before Discharging at his own request.
In March 1917 Harry was working as a Wood Cutter in Albany WA when he enlisted in the AIF. He was a Trooper/Private (Service No:3412) with 10th Light Horse Regiment in Egypt. In October 1918 Harry was WiA - stating 'I hereby certify that on October 1st 1918 when about 8 miles beyond Damascus galloping up the road in action my horse fell and injured my right foot' (National Archives Australia). Harry was Discharged in April 1919.
Returning to WA, Harry was a Farmer at Jeelakin Lake via Kulin and in 1930 married Grace Clara Johnson (b1910 in Northam, WA) in Northam WA. By 1934 the couple was living in Midland Junction WA and Harry was unemployed until 1936 when he was working as a Butcher. Harry served with the ACMF (Sergeant; Service No:W68958)in WWII, and in the early 1950s moved his family to Perth - Inglewood and Ashfield - where he was a Butcher. Harry died in 1983 and Grace in 1998.
