Biography contributed by Paul Lemar

Albert was the son of Theresa Mary FISCHER and was born on the 15th of July 1893 in the Destitute Asylum, Magill, SA.

His mother named Percy as the Putative father, but after investigation it was recorded that there was no such person working at the Loco Shops in Islington and Theresa had given a false name.

He was the 2nd child born to his mother.

Her husband, Robert LLOYD had deserted her not long after they had married.

His mother had married Robert Lloyd on the 30th of December 1890 in Adelaide, SA.

His mother was the daughter of William FISCHER & Mary BRADLEY and was born in 1869 in Wentworth, NSW.

_______________________________

His mother took him to the rescue home in Hurtle Square with her on the 4th of June 1894.

She left the rescue home with Albert the following month as she had gained employment with Mr Churchman of Willaston.

But she was only in his employ for 3 days and returned to Adelaide and were both at the Roman Catholic Refuge.

His mother then gained employment with Mr Bridgeman in Queen Street, Norwood and Albert was with Mrs O’Connell in Queens Street.

By October 1896 he was placed into the State Children’s Department.

Albert was sentenced until he was 18 years of age.

Albert was 3 years old when he was boarded out on the 13th of October 1896 to Mrs Emma Burton, of Richmond Blocks.

He attended the Richmond Primary School for 5 years.

He was recalled on the 17th of August 1905, due to the home being unsuitable.

On the 28th of August 1905 he was transferred to Miss Elizabeth Rhind, a spinster, of Bugle Ranges. (Section 2923 Hundred of Macclesfield).

He attended the Bugle Ranges Primary School.

He completed his service with Miss Rhind.

Albert became a laborer and at sometime during his early life he was the foster child of Mrs E Freer, of Somerset Avenue, Hilton as this was the address he recorded on his enlistment papers.

He married Olive May SHILTON on the 23rd of May 1918 at the residence of Mr A. J. Freer, Hilton, SA.

Olive was the daughter of Charles Thomas SHILTON & Euphemia Bell Wylie CRAIGE and was born on the 23rd of July 1888 in Adelaide, SA

They welcomed their first child; Charles Arthur Albert on the 28th of April 1919, but sadly he died at 4 weeks of age on the 21st of May 1919 and they buried him in the West Terrace Cemetery.

Reginald Lionel Kennedy was then born on the 13th of December 1921.

Sadly, Olive died on the 19th of May 1930 at their residence, 2 Burton Street, Richmond. Albert buried her in the North Road Cemetery the following day.

Albert was now a widow with a 9 year old son so he then married Elma Rose PALM on the 8th of October 1931 in Adelaide.

They lived at 2 Burton Street, Richmond in 1941 and Albert was a labourer.

Albert died suddenly on the 31st of October 1943 and Elma buried him in the North Road Cemetery.

Upon his death the Freer family placed an advertisement in the Advertiser thanking all persons who sent cards and floral tributes on his death.

At the age of 22, Albert enlisted into the AIF on the 20th of July 1915 in Adelaide, SA and was allotted the service number 128 and posted to K Group Base Infantry.
