Sidney Arnold Twigden was born on the 24 October of 1888, at Black Rock in South Australia. Son of Susan Marsh Twigden and Thomas William Twingden, he worked as a Farm Labourer.
During his childhood, he lived with his parents and his four brothers and four sisters in Quorn, Flinders Ranges in South Australia. Sidney's siblings were: Sarah Mary Ann Twigden, the eldest, born 21 August 1879; Thomas William Skeffington Twigden born 7 August 1881; Alice Florence Twignen born 28 July 1882; Hilda Elisabeth Twignen born 16 August of 1885, Sidney Arnold Twigden born 24 October of 1888; Alfred James Twigden born 31 March of 1889, Milicent Susan born on the 29 October of 1891; Harold Percival Twigden born on the 5 February of 1893; and, Pvt Cyril Roy Twigden born on the 25 November of 1895. Sidney Arnold Twigden’s family was Methodist.
At the age of 28 years old and 7 months, on the 6 June of 1916, he enlisted at Adelaide. He embarked in August 1916 and disembarked in England, late September. He proceeded to France and was sent to hospital sick 28th October 1916. he was diagnosed with severe Pleurisy in November while at the 1st Southern General Hospital in France. He was discharged from hospital to base depot at Etaples. Less then a month later he was again admitted to hospital with trench feet and sent to hospital in England. After a few months in hospital he was discharged to furlough to further recover in April 1917.
On the 1st May of 1917, he was transferred to the 70th Battalion. He was admitted to hospital with scabies on the 20th September of 1917, he was transferred back to the 10th Battalion on the 26th September. On the 2nd November of 1918, he was transferred from the 10th Battalion to the Australian Imperial Force Depot Headquarters.
After 2 years and 351 days of service for Australia on the 19th February of 1919, Sidney Arnold Twigden embarked for Australia. He was discharged 22nd May 1919 because he was medically unfit.
He died on the 27 July of 1963 at Mile End, City of West Torrens in South Australia.
