Son of Charlies James Symons and Maude Martha nee Vigar of Morgan, SA. Brother of Charles Lancelot Symons of Tumby Bay, SA who was given as next of kin WW2 and Keith George Symons of Morgan who was later named as next of in WW1

On 26 June 1920 James married Ida Elsie Easther in St. Saviours Church, Glen Osmond, SA

Commenced return to Australia on 10 July 1919 aboard HT Oxfordshire disembarking on 10 August 1919

When he re-enlisted for WW2 James occupation was given as a Hotel Manager and his marital status was given as divorced
