Lance Corporal Ernest Alfred Roberts (Service No:S69793) served in the ACMF with 3 Battalion VDC from 17 May 1942 to 17 April 1943.

Born in Nantawarra, South Australia in 1902, Ernest was eleventh of fourteen children of Joseph Henry Roberts (b1858 in Clarendon, South Australia) and Grace Burlington Wood (b1866 in Clifton via Burnside, South Australia). Joseph (a Blacksmith) and Grace married in 1888 in Shannon, and lived in Long Plain, Malalla, Shannon, Stockport via Hamley Bridge, Nantawarra and Port Wakefield, where they raised their family and Joseph was a Blacksmith.

Ernest's older brothers - Allan, Harry and Fred - served in the AIF in WWI. Ernest was a Butcher in 1927 when he married his first wife in Yorketown - Ellen Florence Ryan (b1910 in Adelaide, South Australia). Following Ellen's death in Gladstone in 1936, Ernest remarried in Magill in 1937 to Ethel Australia Browne (b1915 in Brinkworth, South Australia). Ernest and Ethel lived in Kapunda, Berria, Freeling, Renmark and Gawler, where Ernest was a Butcher. Ernest died in 1971 and Ethel in 2003.
