Arden Seymour Hawker was the son of Lieutenant Henry Colley Hawker, Royal Navy and Julia Gordon Lanoe Hawker and was born at sea on the P & O Bangalore off the coast of Sydney on the 27th of August 1880.

He married Irene De Ste Croix WILKINSON on 20.07.1910.

Lord Mayor of Adelaide 1941-1943.

Military

He enlisted into the AIF and received a commission of 2nd Lieutenant in the Special Draft of AIF Officers.

He had embarked from Melbourne on board HMAT Nestor on the 28th of February 1918 and disembarked in Liverpool.

He proceeded to France in July 1918 and posted to the 50th Battalion.

Military Cross

'For gallant work on the night 12th/13th September, 1918, near Le Verguier. He led his platoon of 25 men against a position held by two companies of the enemy, of whom his platoon killed fourteen, his own casualties being two men slightly wounded. He killed six himself. The information gained enabled his battalion to attack with three platoons on a frontage of 1,000 yards, and advance a further 700 yards, gaining important high ground, and capturing 42 prisoners with eight machine guns.'

When Colonel Arden Seymour Hawker was born on 27 August 1880, in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, his father, Henry Colley Hawker, was 28 and his mother, Julia Gordon Lanoe, was 33. He married Irene De Saint Croix Wilkinson on 20 July 1910, in North Adelaide, South Australia, Australia. They were the parents of at least 4 daughters. He immigrated to New Zealand in 1934. He registered for military service in 1942. In 1915, his occupation is listed as malster - brewing malt. He died on 22 June 1955, in Bungaree, South Australia, Australia, at the age of 74, and was buried in St Michaels Anglican Church Cemetery, Bungaree, South Australia, Australia.
