George was born on the property "Ralgnal" an aborignal name which means "Running Water' at Encounter Bay. Before he enlisted in WW1 in August 1914, George was in camp at Morphettville and later at Broadmeadows and wa a sergeant in the army. Upon enlistment he was promoted to Second Lieutenant and left for overseas with the 9th Battalion Light Horse in October 1914. He served with distinction at Gallipoli and France and was discharged in April 1919.
His wife Henrietta Perrin served as a nurse in WWI.
When the war ended George and Hettie married and spent 27 years at "Warradale" the family farm near Waitpinga. In those days George used a single furrow plough to cultivate the land. They had as much as four acres under cultivation on which they sowed clover. The clover straw was put through a and chaff cutter, and clover seed was separated by a winnower turned by his wife. George was a councillor at Encounter Bay.
They retired to live in Victor Harbor in 1949. George died in 1953. After Hettie moved to Cedar Avenue, Unley. At the age of 94, she was still active and healthy and often went to the city to do her shopping. Hetti said at the time she was the only Sister alive of the 30 who enlisted with her. Hettie passed away at the Kapara Nursing Home, Glenelg at the age of 97.
