Private William Mark Hanton (Service No:1875) enlisted in the AIF on 1 June 1916 and was attached to 3rd Pioneer Battalion when he embarked from Melbourne for Plymouth on 28 July 1916 on board HMAT Themistocles A32. Private Hanton transferred to 5th Pioneer Battalio in France in November 1916 and embarked for the RTA on 19 October 1918 on board HT Sardinia. He was Discharged (medically unfit) on 27 January 1919.
Born in 1878 in Adelaide South Australia, William was a Clerk in St Kilda in Melbourne Victoria in 1907 when he married Ellen (Nell) Clement Annand (b1883 in Maryborough, Victoria). By 1912 William and Nell had settled in Frankston, Victoria where William was an Orchardist when he enlisted in the AIF. William and Nell remained in Frankston where William was an Orchardist/Gardener and he served in the ACMF in WWII (Private;V358616). William died in 1956 and Nell in 1962.
