Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Edward was one of eleven men who departed Inverell on 21 August 1914 to enlist in Sydney. He had served eight years with the Light Horse unit at Inverell and was promoted to Sergeant. When he enlisted, he was engaged working on his father's property. He was 29 years of age, and single. He was a splendid rider and crack shot. As a member of the 1st Light Horse Regiment, A Squadron, he sailed from Sydney on 20 October 1914. He served at Gallipoli and was killed in action during the Australian assaults on 7 August 1915, a few months after being promoted to Corporal. Edward's name is inscribed on the Lone Pine Memorial at Gallipoli, Turkey.

His older brother, 3923A Lce. Cpl. Frederick Tighe 49th Battalion AIF was killed in action at Mouquet Farm just over a year later, aged 34.

Both men have their names inscribed on the Inverell Honor Roll and Cenotaph. In addition, memorial trees were planted for them in 1919 in Kurrajong Parade.
