Ernst Otto Zibell
Ernst enlisted at age 42 when the Government put out the call for the Volunteer Defence Corps (VDC) to be expanded to include men aged between 18 and 60 to enlist to be part of the country's home defence. He enlisted at Barmera, a small country town close by the Murray River in South Australia, a husband and father of six children at the time and took his position seriously, regularly training with others in the 8th Battalion VDC. He was discharged in October1945 after the 8th Battalion VDC was disbanded.
