"Mr. and Mrs. W. Hodder. of Selth street, Albert Park, have been notified that their son. SX14943 Richard William (Dick) Hodder, was killed in an air raid over Tokio on July 13 last. He enlisted in October, 1941, and sailed for Malaya the same year. He was taken prisoner at the fall of Singapore, and sent to Siam, No. 3 camp, where he remained until 1944. He was then taken to Tokio on a transport which was sunk by an American submarine, and was reported dead on September 12, 1944. He was, however, picked up and taken to Tokio camp, where he was killed in an air raid." - from the Adelaide Advertiser 25 Sep 1945 (nla.gov.au)

"Ashes Of Australians Held At Yokohama

TOKIO, Thursday.- The ashes of 80 Australian POWs who died in Japanese camps in various parts of the home islands have been deposited in a specially prepared mausoleumn at Yokohama. Seven Victorians and one man from Canberra are included in the official list. The ashes lnclude those of Lieutenant Colonel E. Robertson, commander of the 2/20 Battalion, Eighth Division. Victorians; Signaller Donald Fraser, Third Officer Geoffrey Hall, Gunner John Hannah William Scott Heywood, Driver Richard William Hodder, Petty Officer Thomas Johnson, Third Officer Francis G.
