Eric Benjamin NELSON was born in St Leonards, Sydney on 7th January, 1892

His parents were John Yeates NELSON & Alice MOUNTCASTLE who married in Sydney in 1889

Eric died of wounds in France on 29th January 1918 following an air operation and is buried in the Lapugnoy Military Cemetery

A telephone engineer from North Sydney, NSW prior to enlistment, Lt Nelson embarked with the rank of Second Lieutenant with B Flight from Melbourne on RMS Omrah on 17 January 1917. Following his transfer to the 71st Squadron he was promoted to Lieutenant. Subsequently transferring back to the 4th Squadron, he was wounded in action in France and, on 29 January 1918, aged 26, he succumbed to his wounds and was buried in the Lapugnoy Military Cemetery, France.
