Died of his wounds after recieving GSW to the thigh

"CAPTAIN W. T. DICK.

Mr. W. T. Dick, M.L.C., has been notified by the Department of Defence that his son, Captain W. T. Dick, has been mentioned in a despatch from Field-Marshall Sir Douglas Haig in the following terms: "I have the honour to submit the name of the undermentioned officer serving under my command, whose distinguished and gallant services and devotion to duty, I consider deserving of special mention." Mr. Dick's other son is with the Light Horse in Palestine. Both soldiers are natives of Newcastle." - from the Newcastle Morning Herald and Miner's Advocate 20 Jul 1917 (nla.gov.au)

Mr. W. T. Dick. M.L.C., has been notified by the military authorities that his son Captain W. T. Dick, was killed in action last month. Captain Dick, who was 23 years of age, left with the first contingent as a private, and went through the Gallipoli campaign, in which he gained his lieutenancy. After a few months' fighting in France, he was promoted to captain. He had recently been mentioned in despatches. Captain Dick was educated mainly at the Cleveland-street Superior Public School and at the Sydney Grammar School." - from the Sydney Evening News 20 Oct 1917 (nla.gov.au)
